Maybelline Liquid Dream Foundation

I love Maybelline’s foundation. I’ve tried their Matte Mousse and the Powder Finish, and quickly had to add Maybelline to my list of makeup favorites. It’s so light and the finish is perfect. So I am really eager to purchase the liquid dream. The only problem is, I’ll have to purchase two bottles. That’s right two bottles. You see Maybelline does not have a robust color palette. For some reason they only believe that there are three shades of brown: Tan, Caramel and Cocoa (mmmhhhh). Now when you consider the fact that there are still some makeup lines that don’t believe the color brown exist (cough, Chanel, cough), I guess that’s progress.

Over and over again I’ve been asked why I prefer those “expensive department store brands” when there are less expensive makeup choices at Walgreen’s and CVS’s on every corner. Well, this is just one of the reasons: Variety. When I go to the MAC counter, Iman counter or the Lancome counter I don’t have to mix and match, they’ve got my color. And they have a variety of shades of everything else. They are serious about their products, because they know if you have come to their boutique or to a department store, you are a grown woman who is as serious about your look as they are about their products and not just some teenager who has stopped in for gum and some lip gloss before she hits the drive-thru. Was that a sentence or what? But I told the truth. When I start lying, you stop me.

Love Maybelline. Will purchase my two bottles. At least I know when I mix them, the color will be perfect. But I stand by the fact that all makeup lines that want to include women of color, need to actually include more color. No, they just keep hiring models that look like me every once in a blue moon that look like me, when we both know that you don’t have a shade in your lab that will work for her or for me. When you have twelve shades and only two or three are at the other end of the spectrum, get real.

Christian Dior, I’m putting you on notice, too. Yeah, I see you.

Happy Wednesday, Ladies.

Oh and remember, whether it is the foundation in your makeup bag, the foundation you wear underneath, or the foundation you stand on, make sure that it compliments the woman you are and is true to the woman you will become.
