Glamour Magazine July 2010

There seems to be this lingering notion that a woman’s strength is measured be an uncanny ability to do all, be all and give all without letup.  That if we multitask ourselves at warp speed, cater to the every whim of our families and meet the ever increasing demands of our jobs, without complaint or tear, we will somehow get that honorary, all be it invisible badge declaring us a “strong woman”.  That badge is counterfeit!  Somewhere along the way “strength” was misconstrued as being invincible- and that, we most definitely are not.  We were not meant to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders, seeing how much we can take on before we eventually crumble. We were not meant to leap tall buildings in a single bound.  Instead of tyring to be a wonder woman, we need to focus on becoming wonderful women.

It’s time to rethink, re-design and re-define what it means to be strong.  And that may very well be different for each of us.  A strong woman knows when to replenish.  A strong woman recognizes that the conservation of her own energy is as precious as that of the earth’s energy.  A strong woman remembers that like a gem, she is precious and deserves to be treated as such.  Not just by others, but by herself as well.  Be bright, beautiful, tenacious, resilient-and balanced.  Stay strong!

Strength for me is about peace of mind, a calm heart, and a healthy body. What is strength to you?

Your definition of strength is so eloquent that I’m at a loss for words to add to your prose….

I love how well worded this is. Sometimes when we are down, and we have those monents, it’s important to remember these things. Seriously, we forget how to be strong.

The definition is correct: “Strength for me is about peace of mind, a calm heart, and a healthy body.”

How else are we supposed to be?!
