Cruise Control: The Buick Enclave

So I am still floating from this past week’s activities.  As I mentioned previously I was in Miami just last week for the Blogalicious conference.  As part of the conference one of the sponsors offered transportation to the hotel to Blogalicious attendees.  So I signed up.  I hadn’t thought much about Buick over the years.  But hey a free lift to the hotel is a score.

Now honestly, I was expecting something big, clunky, and bouncy to pull up.  After all, in a conversation a few years ago someone cracked that someone looked like they must have drove a “Buick”.  I too, thought Buick was for “mature” drivers.  So you could have knocked me and my luggage over with a feather when I saw the sleekness that is the Buick Enclave.

Talk about putting a smile on a girl’s face.  They offered to chauffer me.  But I wanted to ride shot gun.  I wanted to make sure that I got a great look at the dash and features.  The interior was quite impressive-comfortable, caressing seats and sunroof.  The reason I wanted to make sure I could see the dash is to make sure Buick wasn’t pulling a fast one.  I’ve been in some cars that are magnificent on the outside, but the dashboard looks like a relic from an ancient ship.  Not so with Buick.

The dash was wood grain with chrome accents and eye-pleasing lighting.  It also boasts the technology of the On Star system. I’ve always been amazed by the technology of the On Star system and there’s this curious rumor that you can get the aid of OnStar with Snoop Dogg’s voice…urban legend I’m sure.  Nevertheless, OnStar is definitely offers peace of mind and added security.

I was also impressed by the way it handled.  In all honesty, there are some cars that have that more bounce to the ounce feel and in this case, it’s not a good thing.  It was fun as a kid, but as a driver, that bucking and bouncing is not the look.  As we were riding to the hotel, a multitasking and distracted driver attempted to take my seat.  We swerved and I was really surprise that we didn’t buck and swoon as I expected.  Then as we approached South Beach, high waters had caused some flooding in the streets.  Again, Buick delivered on comfort and handling.

It looked good, the ride was smooth, so short of checking the engines and tire pressure, there was one last test-the sound.  We had been floating down the highway to some serious jazz.  I love jazz but it’s an easy test when listening to a sound system.  So I casually interrupted my driver, “So what stations do you have in Miami or is this your favorite?”  He got the clue.  I wasn’t expecting a booming system.  That was the ’90’s.  This was a good sound.  Let’s just say the Buick Enclave can hold it’s own to your iPod.  I was glad I had taken a front seat, because as we cruised through Miami toward my destination, curls blowing through the wind, I was digging the scene with a stylish lean. The Buick Enclave was a good look.

So to the Buick team, I want to say thank you for the ride.  And to my readers, Rainy Day Diva was truly wowed!
