Essence Music Festival: Pack Light

Today I’m heading off to New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival (my first time for both).  I am excited about the city, the cuisine, and of course the concerts: Jill Scott, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, and New Edition!  I wonder if Bobby Brown will be performing with NE or if he’ll be taping new episodes of Real Husbands of Hollywood.  Mhhh! I’ll have to wait and see.

But as with any trip, there’s always the issue of what to pack.  My intention is to pack light (yes me, the original bag lady).  It’s amazing all of the corners we cut and steps we skip in our daily beauty routine, but when we travel we want the to take the full shebang!  Do I really need to take every shade of gloss and eyeshadow? Na! But sunscreen, tinted-moisturizer, mascara and makeup remover are a must!

So to help me lighten the load, I went shopping for some toiletry containers specifically for travel and got some really great finds.

Sephora, has some of the cutest travel cosmetic bags.  They come in sizes fit for a suitcase of a purse and can even fold into each other. ($6-$28). They also sell these small plastic travel containers (in a clear pouch) that come with labels, so that you don’t have to guess what product you put where.

Of course, I’ll be dusting off my Pitotubes.  I discovered these trusty tubes a while back and they come in handy because you can transfer your products and you can pour, pump, or spray depending on your needs.  And they have their own case as well.

Solid perfume.  I hate having to travel without my favorite scents.  There was always the risk of it being confiscated by security, or exploding in your luggage.  Those days are over.  My Narciso Rodriguez solid is the size of a book of matches.  And most brands now offer a solid or roll-on, like Carol’s Daughter vanilla-scent.

Trish McEvoy Beauty Organizer

I had to stop by the Trish McEvoy counter.  She has these lovely beauty organizers for her makeup that has pages in them.  They have three rings in them like a binder.  So you actually flip through your makeup like pages. When you have Trish’s case, you are traveling in style.  I invested in one a while back and was hoping to add-on.  So I was so disappointed to learn that the new travel kits only fit in the new beauty organizers (not the one I bought way back when).  Oh well, hopefully they’ll remedy that soon.

As for luggage, I found a really nice carry on bag from the DVF Studio collection.  I’m ready for my window seat.

Are you going to the EMF?  Which artist are you most excited to see?
