Luxe For Less At Kmart!

Harper’s Bazaar magazine released their luxe gift list guide for beauty, fashion and home.  Handbags, travel pieces, jewelry and enough designer names to quickly turn the luxe list to a “wish” list it would seem.  Not if Kmart has anything to do with it.  This season Kmart is going luxe with items that match your style for fashion and home decor along with your budget.  When I look at the  comparisons on the Harper’s Bazaar Luxe List with the affordable choices, it’s clear… … (Read More)

Prada Candy Video

First Lanvin gave us the crazy dance video. Now Prada has given us ballroom-gone-wild with the commercial for their new fragrance, Prada Candy.  I think this has been out for a while, I don’t know how I missed it.  But in case you missed it, this should give you a giggle.  I think I’m going to add this to my fragrance list. I’ll keep you posted. Is she wearing pink bloomers? Too funny.  Oh, and if you want more. Check out the behind the scenes, below. Courtesy of Fashionista … (Read More)

I just love Isaac Mizrahi’s humor and candor.  In this short video the designer gives style advice and one surefire way not to look too old!  We were all thinking it. Somebody had to say it. Go Isaac.

Ice Pouch Chic, Ice Pouch ($7.99)

I know I’ve been M.I.A. for a minute.  But I have come down with a bad cold!  I haven’t seen mascara in days.  What’s worst is that I feel so miserable that makeup is the last thing on my mind.  I’ve been so out of it, I couldn’t even read my latest magazines.  It’s just been me, a glass of juice and my crumpled kleenex.  This pitiful scenario has got me thinking.   Is there a way to not look quite as miserable as you feel when you’re not feeling well? … (Read More)

I have some exciting news!  Every month Pepsi gives away thousands of dollars in grants to people who have ideas to improve the arts, community or education. The concept is to take the ideas of every day people, like me, and help get their projects going by providing them with funding.  If the idea is accepted, then it’s placed on Pepsi’s Refresh Everything site.  The ideas that get the most votes become finalists and are then eligible to receive grants.

Yesterday I received news that my idea of  Teach Teens 2 Dress was accepted! I am so happy.  The next step is to get votes for my idea-lots and lots of votes.  So let me tell you a bit more about it.

Teach Teens 2 Dress is about helping deserving teens and pre-teens start the school year with a positive self-image by providing them with school clothes and teaching them about dress and grooming. I call this the Fashion Ed Scholarship.  Fashion Ed is a play on words, like Physical Ed.,  (but Teach Teens 2 Dress, summed up the idea a lot easier).

Why Teach Teens To Dress? I started working during my freshman year of high school at the age of 14 just so that I could afford my school clothes. When you can leave your home feeling confident and happy about what you’re wearing, it makes learning and participation that much easier.  As adults, women spend so much time trying to learn or master how to dress for their body type.  How many makeover shows have we seen?  I think students should have a resource for learning dress and grooming for their body types as soon as image becomes important to them.  You can see more details of Teach Teens 2 Dress here.

How Can You Help? Please, visit Pepsi’s Refresh Everything website and vote.  You can vote up to 5 time a day between now and midnight (ET) December 31, 2011. I appreciate your support. Thanks!!!

Miss Jessie's Super Slip Sudsy Shampoo

It’s been a long time coming, but I finally tried Miss Jessie’s hair styling products. I’ve put it off for quite some time because, for one, I’ve been really enjoying so many natural hair products over the past year. Then there’s the fact that I’ve heard so much buzz about Miss Jessie’s and it wasn’t all positive.

In fact, aside from the beautiful ads that I saw for the product, I heard more cautionary tales: It’s overpriced, they use cheap ingredients, it dried my hair out, and did I mention it’s overpriced? Then there’s the fact that some of their products alter your hair chemically. All the noise had me feeling that I wasn’t supposed to like this product.

Janet Jackson poses for Harper's Bazaar Arabia, November 2011

Janet Jackson graces the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia this month-looking absolutely fabulous.  The shaggy windblown cut is a nice change up from the sleek short cut and the bold color clothes are hot.  But what I really like is that they made the dramatic eye and understated lip work for every shot.

Reed’s Runway

Dr. Carla Reed (Ross), Morning Coffee

Just in case you missed last night’s episode of Reed Between The Lines, here’s a snapshot of one of my favorite looks from Dr. Reed’s wardrobe!  Red is definitely her color! Just a couple of episodes ago she wore a red dress for her dance class. Actually, last night’s wardrobe was a nice balance of neutrals and bright, bright colors.  Both Dr. Reed and Ms. Helen wore bright, flowing green tops during both episodes! … (Read More)
