I had the pleasure of seeing Will Downing in concert recently. I had never seen him live and was truly looking forward to not only hearing his smooth baritone, but also seeing Maysa, another one of my favorites who was opening for him. Much to my surprise the show opened with an artist I was not familiar with–Eric Roberson. I shifted in my seat, wondering how long before I got to see the people I paid to see, but within minutes of Eric making his way on to the stage, I had forgotten all about my hurry to see the headliners.
Eric Roberson gave a magnificent performance. I love it when people can do their thing live–and boy did he do it right. While I didn’t know any of his songs, I knew that I was going to have a new artist added to my Ipod. And by the time he sang Adore by Prince, Eric had a new fan. I think what was most impressive to me was when he wrote a song on stage. He asked audience members to give him five words and he would incorporate those words into a song. What was so great was that he did it AND the song actually made sense. It was wonderful. So if you didn’t know about Eric Roberson, now you know.
