It’s all over the news, magazines, and TV shows. You would have to be living under a rock or in a deep coma to not know that there is an energy crisis. Well, I too, have been concerned about energy. I unplug my unused chargers and turn off that extra light. However I must admit, that how we use energy has been weighing on my mind for quite some time and I’m talking about something that doesn’t involve electric companies, windmills, or politics.
So many of us are misdirecting our emotional energy, our “Inergy”. We spend a lot of time focusing on things that aren’t worthy of our mental real estate. We clutter and crowd out our focus, our drive, our talent and ultimately delay success, deny us fulfillment and waste our pretty (you read that right). Have you ever looked at an old photo and realized that back then, whenever then was, that you had it going on–not just from a superficial standpoint, but that you really had it going on, but at the time you just didn’t realize it? You thought you weren’t as smart, or talented, or pretty. You thought you needed him, or them (certain friends, etc), or it (cars, status symbols, etc.), you thought you didn’t have what it took to do the things that you REALLY wanted to do, or the courage to be who you really are. You wasted a lot of your Inergy doubting and ignoring the possibilities. Now you look back at that photo or that time and realize that you had it. You had a chance. But now what you have is an Inergy Crisis.
Well, it’s not too late to turn it around. Just close your eyes and imagine for a moment 10 years into the future. Yep, a whole decade. Do you want to look back at a photo from today and say again, “I had a chance, I could have done it.” Don’t let the added responsibilities, the hectic schedule, the extra weight, disappointments, missed opportunities, and yes–that failed relationship consume your Inergy. Try to see the beauty of where you are and savor it for a moment. Then decide what path you are going to take, and take it. If you are in a bleak situation, consider this your “paying dues” time and smile through it. Every corporate success, entrepreneur, hip-hop star, award winning actress, and rocket scientist will testify that they had to pay their dues, so try to see it that way.
Turn off those thoughts that are depleting your happiness, idling your talents, stifling your dreams and increasing your emotional baggage. And please, ladies…don’t waste your pretty.
Let me know how you conserve your inergy.
