This month two of our favorite super models grace the covers of international fashion magazines. These covers not only show style, they scream confidence. That is just what spring brings-renewed vigor and that uncontrollable desire to strut your stuff and bask in glory. Naomi Campbell is all smiles for Russian Vogue, while Alek Wek flaunts a black tulle skirt for Elle South Africa.
I think pink hair is the look for Naomi. It’s fun and flirty which is a nice contrast to what we always hear and see of her stateside. While I’m sure the designer didn’t choose this look for her solely to change the public perception of Ms. Campbell, it definitely doesn’t hurt. While I won’t be adding a pink wig to my weave wardrobe, I’m loving the makeup and taking notes. Red lipstick is tricky. It has to be the right shade. Personally, I’m partial to blue-reds and the combination with a slightly deeper liner. Is a good look. One of my favorites, Ruby Woo by MAC.
There’s something about Alek’s cover for Elle South Africa that is giving me mid-80’s Jody Watley, Madonna (way back when) that I love. Funky, full skirt, t-shirt, heels and a smile. Not everybody could pull this one off. This isn’t just a look, it’s an attitude, an approach to life. You can’t just feel this for the day or the moment, you have to live it (unless you’re a model). I’m still waiting for them to bottle that vibe. I’m telling you it would fly off the shelves.
Since 2010 is the year to try something new, I’ll be looking for a new shade of red. I’ve heard good things about Coco Chanel Rouge 22, but I’m not sold on it just yet. So tell me, what is your favorite shade of lipstick, red or otherwise. I’ll be shopping…
