I hear so many women say that their husbands, boyfriends, brothers and even cousins don’t like women with weaves. The reasons have ranged from ‘it means she doesn’t love herself’ to he can’t run his fingers through it. Yet, I see so many men compliment women with weaves. It was bound to happen that this subject would come up at the salon. My stylist take on it is that men don’t dislike weaves but rather, “men don’t like bad weaves.”
In all honesty, I have to agree. The same men that say they don’t like weaves go ga-ga over every weave wearing celebrity. I think the men who protest weaves have not been around women who had good weaves. I know a lot of women who try to go half-price on a sew-in and well, it shows (pun intended). And I believe weave-wearing-women (WWW’s) have the same successes at finding and maintaining relationships as those of us who keep it real.
So is it really that men don’t like weaves? Or is it only the cheap, lopsided, track-showing jobs that are the turn-off? Talk to me. Meanwhile, check out Beyonce’s new Loreal commercial.
