Carolina Herrera is one of the shows I’ve been looking forward to the most. This is fashion for grown-ups: always womanly, yet very ladylike. Herrera’s collection are the perfect balance of strength and femininity. The fall 2011 collection does not disappoint. It beckons the ’70’s with exaggerated cuffs and structured belts, but is demure and modern enough to avoid the date stamp.

I was delighted to softer hues for fall including amethyst, cocoa, turquoise, primrose and gray. With the occasional contrast of red, bone or rust for jackets and coats.

On the runway the makeup and hair stayed true to the ’70’s vibe. The look was full brow. As for color, demure earth tones and soft plums for lips and cheeks – a look that straddles icy mornings with a hint of hope for Spring. Maybelline is the official makeup sponsor for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and to get this look, try their Super Stay 24 Color. They have a range of colors, but I’ve been wearing Constantly Cabernet and I like it. It’s perfect for achieving this runway look and when they say it stays, it stays. The nice thing is it has a lip balm with it, so fall, winter, whatever the season your lips will stay soft.

As for the hair, instead of a traditional chignon side swept bangs were rolled into a upsweep in the back. While the runway look was very simple, and it almost looks effortless. Word of caution if you’re going to try this at home. This is the perfect look for for a night out on the town, but it can also double as a bad hair day go-to style. It’s quick and easy, but resist the urge to rush this one. A little mousse goes a long way or else those edges will droop and that’s not a good look. Also consider some embellished pins or hair combs for added security and a little something extra.
